A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Gules, on a pile Argent a lions face of the first jessant-de-lis Or. Attached below and to the sides of the shield a Red scroll turned Gold inscribed SKILL IS STRENGTH in Gold letters.
Scarlet and white are the Corps of Engineer colors and the pile is also symbolical of Engineers. The lions face represents the Battalions services in Normandy and the fleur-de-lis for its engagements in the interior of France and in the Rhineland.
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 293d Engineer Construction Battalion on 31 January 1952. It was redesignated for the 293d Engineer Battalion on 10 December 1963.
